How I leveled my classroom library:
My classroom library has been leveled in a very special way. I had a rainbow created that was split up into 13 arches. There are 3 red arches. Red 1, Red 2, and Red 3. These stand for G.R. levels A-C. Next I have two orange arches, Orange 1, and Orange 2, which stand for levels D and E. The rainbow continues through purple and ends with level M. Students will choose books according to their level without knowing that that a book with a sticker that has a Red 2 is a "B" book. I used the small, round, white dots to level each book and literally used each color marker and wrote the number on the sticker. Ex: Level E is an orange 2 on the rainbow, so I took an orange marker and wrote a 2 on the dot. I used only Scholastic's Book Wizard to level books. The books I could not locate are not leveled. These books will be books we use after we have a minilesson on choosing "just right" books.
My library and the bins!!!
My library has also been sorted by theme. My labels and themes are listed on the Reading page of my site. Here are some pictures of my library. I also made stickers that match the basket labels. This way my students return the book to the proper baskets. I also have different colored baskets for different types of books. Red baskets are fiction books, blue baskets are nonfiction books, green baskets are poetry, song and rhyming books, and yellow baskets are chapter books.
Here are some pictures!!
