Teaching students to read is my favorite part of teaching first grade. I feel very strongly about using a balanced literacy approach. During a day, my kids will be read aloud to several times, particpate in a shared reading of a poem or story, read independently during Reader's workshop and participate in a guided reading group. Below I will share resources for teaching reading, using literacy centers, library organization and more. I will also share some of the most amazing sites I have discovered.

Happy Reading!

Click on the link below to see picture of my classroom library. All of my books are sorted by theme. The majority of my books are also leveled. I have a rainbow leveling system that corresponds to guided reading levels. Students can pick just right books for them, using this system.

Library Book Lables!

I have had many requests for the labels I use on my library baskets, as well as for the stickers that match. Unfortunately, Thistlegirldesigns.com requires a person to have a resellers license in order to post or sell anything made with her graphics. The fee for this license is 120.00. Therefore, I cannot send or post my labels. If you would like to donate below,I will purchase the license and share all of the wonderful documents I've made with these graphics.
